City honours enforcement veterans

The awarding of long service medals is a first for the City and celebrates staff members who have amassed 30+ years of service in the enforcement environment. Read more below:

The long service medal ceremony honoured 112 staff members who have completed 30 years of service or more in the enforcement environment.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis joined the ceremony, commending the officers for their unwavering commitment to the people of Cape Town and careers defined by service, responsibility and sacrifice.

While the City has a strong tradition of celebrating long service across all departments, the introduction of medals for staff members who have worn the badge for 30+ years serves to underline their contributions to public safety.

Traffic warden, Adriana Conyers led the female contingent, with 36 years of service.

'This event comes just weeks after our annual Remembrance Day Service where we pay tribute to enforcement and emergency services staff members who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Pausing in recognition and remembrance is the least we can do for the thousands of staff members who put their lives on the line in service of Cape Town,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
